"Pay It Forward" is the eighth sermon in this series. Pastoral pay can be a controversial issue but Paul reiterates the teaching of Jesus that a laborer deserves his wages. Church leaders who work hard to further the gospel have a right to earn their living by the gospel, although they are not obligated to.
"Dos, Don'ts, & Maybes" is the seventh sermon in this series. Many Christians wrestle with questions of what they are “allowed” to do, what they must not do, and what they have liberty to do. Christian liberties can be a difficult balance and the Corinthians struggled with this as well. Paul addresses many of these principles in chapter 8 of 1 Corinthians.
"Put A Ring On It. Or Don't." is the sixth sermon in this series. There were a lot of single people in the church at Corinth who were hearing mixed messages on what to do about their relationship status. Paul clarifies that single people are free to pursue marriage, but are free for ministry if they remain single. Above all, the gospel remains central in the life of every believer, whether married or not.
"Stay Put" is the fifth sermon in this series. Paul gets on a little bit of a soapbox in this passage, taking principles he had applied to marriage and singleness, and applying them more broadly. God instructs us in this passage to be content and confident in the circumstances of our life. God has sovereignly orchestrated them for His glory and our good.
"Love & Marriage" is the fourth sermon in this series. With the Corinthians’ perversion of sex, some doctrinal clarity was needed on the topic of marriage. Paul takes the opportunity to give us some of the clearest teachings on marriage in all of scripture. He deals with the purpose of marriage, divorce, the goodness of singleness, and how to conduct oneself within marriages between believers and unbelievers.
"Worth It" is the third sermon in this series. After a couple of mentions of sexual immorality within the Church at Corinth, Paul enters into a discourse explaining why this particular sin is especially offensive to God and to others. All our sins are external, but sexual sin is both external and internal, against others and against ourselves. We are exhorted to respect our bodies, which are temples for God’s glory.
"Save The Drama" is the second sermon in this series. The Corinthian Christians fought with one another a lot. Their depravity fought its way to the surface in their lives and led them into disputes with one another. Instead of living selflessly, they selfishly sought to win every argument or conflict. This created a horrible reputation for the church and needed correction from Paul, the apostle.
"We Need To Talk" is the first sermon in this series. The Corinthian church was wild. Filled with rampant sin, we see one example of the many sinful situations in chapter five. A man having a sexual relationship with his stepmother leads to teaching on the importance of church discipline as the church is exhorted to stop being so wild and instead start reaching wild people, far from Christ.
