DEFENDERS & PRETENDERS
WEEK 3 | Jude 17-23
Sermon title: “Support”
- SUPPORT TRUTH
- SUPPORT YOURSELF
- SUPPORT OTHERS
Jude 1:17-23 17 But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They said to you, "In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions." 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.
1 Timothy 3:15 if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.
John 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
KEY THOUGHTS & QUOTES
Faithless people fight with people.
The word in Greek, tēreō (τηρέω), means to guard or defend.
“I interrogated these as to whether they were Christians; those who confessed I interrogated a second and a third time, threatening them with a punishment; those who persisted I ordered executed . . . when they invoked the gods . . . offered prayer to your image . . . and moreover cursed Christ — none of which those who are really Christians, it is said, can be forced to do — these I thought should be discharged. . .” -Pliny of Rome
